K2 Contemporary Art Center has operated in Büyük Kardıçalı Han, one of the most important examples of Republican Period Turkish architecture and one of the first reinforced concrete buildings in Türkiye, with its office, gallery and library for 18 years starting from 2002. During this period, it has hosted many exhibitions, artist talks, film screenings and seminars. K2 has created a meeting point in İzmir where contemporary art is presented, researched and discussed. Unfortunately, Büyük Kardıçalı Han was damaged in the earthquake on 30 October 2020 and the use of the building became risky. Therefore, like all the inhabitants of the building, K2’s activities here have come to an end.
