Panel: “Artist-in-Residence Programs and Cities: Encounters, Interactions, Traces”

As part of EXPO: Capsule, the largest event of the Create in İzmir project, K2 Contemporary Art Center organized a panel titled “Artist-in-Residence Programs and Cities: Encounters, Interactions, Traces” on November 24, 2025.

Moderated by Ayşegül Kurtel, Founding Director of K2 Contemporary Art Center, the panel featured Cité des Arts Artist-in-Residence Program Project Coordinator of the İstanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (İKSV) Leyla Bayrı, Gate 27 Director Burak Mert Çiloğlugil, artist Cansu Çakar, industrial designer and marine artist Nermin Sena Özger, and artist Annika Katja Boll.

At the panel, organized at the Historical Coal Gas Factory Cultural Center,  the aims of artist-in-residence programs, their relationships with cities, and the experiences of both institutions and artists were discussed.

Leyla Bayrı talked about the structure and operation of Cité des Arts (Paris), while Burak Mert Çiloğlugil discussed Gate 27 (Istanbul, Ayvalık), sharing examples of artists who have participated in the programs. Cansu Çakar shared her work and experiences at Tate St Ives (Cornwall), Nermin Sena Özger at Deniz Villaları La Friche (Marseille) and the Izmir Mediterranean Biennial, while Annika Katja Boll shared hers at Deniz Villaları K2 Urla Nefes Alanı (Izmir).
