14 Jan Artist-in-Residence
The project titled ‘Networking between CSOs and Public Institutions through the “Artist-in-Residence” Programme’ was supported by the ‘Partnerships and Networks Grant Scheme for Strengthening Cooperation between the Public Sector and CSOs’ funded by the European Union and the Republic of Turkey and implemented by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Directorate for EU Affairs under the Civil Society Support Programme.
The Programme, implemented under the Civil Society Support Programme, was funded by the European Union and the Republic of Turkey under the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA II) 2014 programme. The programme aimed to strengthen cooperation between civil society organisations and public institutions and to develop networks among civil society organisations. Within the scope of the grant programme, 10 projects across Turkey were awarded grants. The Programme is implemented by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Directorate for EU Affairs and the Contracting Authority is the Central Finance and Contracts Unit.
The project, known as ‘daire’, aims to improve the capacities of public institutions and NGOs active in the field of arts in Turkey by strengthening their cooperation with each other in order to ensure their involvement in policy-making and decision-making processes on contemporary art.
NomadMind (NomadMind) Design and Art Practices Association and Troy Culture Association from Turkey and Hatay Metropolitan Municipality also took an active role in the project, which was carried out in partnership with SCCA – Ljubljana Contemporary Art Centre from Slovenia.
The project was implemented in 9 provinces of Turkey: Çanakkale, Diyarbakır, Hatay, İstanbul, İzmir, Mardin, Mersin, Nevşehir and Sinop.
‘Artist-in-Residence Programmes’ are becoming increasingly widespread in Turkey, as they are all over the world. With this method, artists are given the opportunity to live and produce for a certain period of time as guests in a place outside their current living and working environment. The programmes are also important in terms of establishing a social network among individuals and institutions working in the field.
The project, which also includes activities to improve the management and communication capacities of non-governmental organisations, aims to raise general awareness in the field of contemporary art from the introductory event to its closure.
For this purpose, introductory meetings, needs analyses, opportunity assessments, workshops, panels, performances and exhibitions were organised with representatives of public institutions, non-governmental organisations and universities in all provinces where the project was implemented, with Izmir as the centre.
The circle started on 15 January 2019 and lasted until 14 January 2021.
