17 May Fear
Beksultan Oğuz’s exhibition, constructed through ceramics, painting, video and installation, focuses on individual and social fears. Rather than a psychological, physiological, cognitive feeling or emotional experience of fear, the artist explores the effects of the experience of fear in political, social and cultural life practice. The experience of fear is an element of power under the control of the powers that be, enabling and suppressing social segregation. However; this experience has created socialisation and collective life. Inspired by the rituals of primitive societies in the face of fear, the artist shows the relationship between the agent and the passive of fear and the violence it causes, sometimes through symbols, sometimes through humour and cultural codes.
The artist, who prefers to include the art receiver in the production process, presents the works produced in the ceramic workshops he organised in Izmir and Istanbul in cooperation with various non-governmental organisations before the exhibition as an installation.
