11 Jan Houses Far From Home
In his first solo exhibition, photojournalist and documentary photographer Mert Çakır focuses on the homes of displaced people in the Middle East geography marked by poverty, war and political instability. Comprising images taken in Turkey, Syria, Iraq, Iran, Greece, Syria, Iran, Syria and Greece, the exhibition shares the conditions of migrant families with the viewer by establishing similarities between the places they live in. The images of houses that resemble each other on the route from devastated areas to the periphery of living cities are a document that can shed light on the new urban poor and the processes of exclusion. In this sense, the photo series aims to make a positive contribution to resolving the social perception of migrants, whose depth of violence is not recognised in media-centred imaginations.
The first exhibition of the 2019 season at K2 Residence, which has been an exhibition space open to different disciplines since its opening, will be open to visitors between 11-16 January between 12:00 – 17:00.
