18 Mar Reflections and Movements
From March 18 to March 31, 2016, the K2 Contemporary Art Center will present for the first time in Turkey the exhibition Reflections and Movements. This exhibition proposes a meditation on the notions of being rooted and uprooted. For the occasion, four artists have made a careful selection of recent film and video works, all dealing in different ways with the questions of identity, sedentariness and migration. In the world where more and more people move, female artists from four different corners of the world propose their vision of the subject. Lyubov Matyunina, Russian, living in Netherlands explore with much humor and sensitivity the theme of uprooting and immigration. Moira Tierney, Irish, living in the United States propose in “Are We There Yet?” a poetical as much as political journey to the border of Ireland. Marguerite Lantz’s art deals with dichotomies artificial-natural, movement-inertia. Elena Tyushova’s works, on the border of video-art and experimental film, meditate on the questions of displacement and solitariness.
This exhibition presents a selection of works (shot on film or digitally) rich with spiritual and environmental references. Spatially organized as a conversation between different art pieces it provides the viewer an opportunity to participate in this visual communication that unites geographical areas from various corners of the world.
